First appearing in Persia, Russian Orloff chickens were spread across Europe in the 17th century. The breed itself is named after Alexei Grigoryevich Orlov, a Russian count, who played a large role in promoting the breed across Europe. Hens lay around 100 light brown eggs a year. Orloffs are a super hardy winter breed – with their muffs, beards, and cushion combs, Orloffs are well prepared for our Albertan Winters.
